Families of children and adults with disabilities face many daily challenges, but access to affordable, quality care shouldn’t be one of them. Easterseals West Georgia (ESWG), a United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley partner, is breaking down barriers and offering critical therapeutic support that empowers individuals and strengthens families.
The Issue
Finding consistent, quality care that meets the unique needs of people with disabilities can be overwhelming. For many families, this means not being able to work, attend school, or even take a needed break. At the same time, individuals with disabilities often lack access to essential therapies that support their development and independence.
This gap in services puts strain on the entire household—emotionally, physically, and financially.
The Action
Thanks to support from United Way, Easterseals West Georgia is providing a solution that works for the whole family. Their Therapeutic Care and Education program offers specialized day services for individuals of all ages and abilities. As the only program of its kind in the region, ESWG delivers a comprehensive, person-centered approach to care.
Participants benefit from occupational, physical, speech, and behavioral therapies, all provided in one location by specially trained staff. Each person is assessed to develop targeted goals, and progress is carefully tracked. Whether a participant is building communication skills, managing behaviors, or learning to engage socially, each small step leads to lasting transformation.
United Way’s investment ensures that these services remain affordable and accessible, especially for families who might otherwise go without.
The Result
This partnership is changing lives every day. When families can access trusted therapeutic care, they gain the freedom to return to work, pursue education, or simply rest, knowing their loved one is safe and supported.
Take “John,” a participant in ESWG’s adult program. A year ago, John regularly experienced aggressive behaviors that made connection difficult. Today, after consistent therapeutic intervention, John has gone five months without any incidents. He’s developed emotional regulation tools, formed meaningful relationships with peers and staff, and participates joyfully in group activities like music, art, and movement.
His transformation is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when individuals receive compassionate, consistent care supported by a strong community.
The Bigger Picture
United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley is proud to partner with organizations like Easterseals to remove barriers and create pathways to prosperity for every person, at every stage of life. When we invest in solutions that support the whole family, we create ripple effects that benefit the entire community.
