United Way Big Brothers Big Sisters Success Story

Every child needs someone they can count on. Through the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentorship success program in the Chattahoochee Valley, caring mentors are stepping up to help children grow, learn, and thrive. Every child needs someone they can count on.

One powerful example is the match between Little Sister Alexis and Big Sister Erica.

Alexis joined the program in April 2020. At the time, both of her parents were in prison, and she was living with her grandmother. Life felt uncertain, but that changed when she met Erica, a military sergeant with a heart for helping others.

Shared Interests, Lasting Impact

Erica connected with Alexis right away. They discovered a shared love for fashion, and Alexis quickly showed a natural talent for hairstyling and nails. Their outings turned into creative adventures—shopping for fabric, trying new styles, and talking about future career paths.

Erica encouraged Alexis’s skills while helping her stay focused on school and personal growth. Over time, their bond grew stronger. Erica became not just a mentor, but a trusted friend and extended family member.

As Alexis started high school, Erica remained by her side. Her support continues to make a difference.

Creating Opportunity, Building Strength

This powerful relationship shows what can happen when young people have someone in their corner. Thanks to United Way’s investment in programs like Big Brothers Big Sisters, more children are getting the tools they need to succeed.

United Way in Action

When children have strong mentors, they gain the confidence to dream bigger and reach higher. Through our partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters, United Way helps provide that steady support.
