The family of eight had been away visiting relatives when they received the heartbreaking news. As one of United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley’s funded nonprofit partners, the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team responded immediately, providing emergency supplies, financial assistance, and compassionate support to help meet the family’s most urgent needs. Caseworkers also helped replace essential prescription medications while connecting the family with additional community resources.
With six children experiencing the uncertainty of losing their home, emotional support became just as important as meeting physical needs. The American Red Cross Disaster Mental Health team worked alongside the family, recognizing that recovery means helping children and parents regain a sense of stability while navigating an unimaginable loss.
Because their immediate needs were met quickly, the family could focus on caring for one another and taking the first steps toward rebuilding their home and their future.
