Empowering Girls in Rural Communities

In Talbot County, Girl Scouts leadership programs in Georgia are helping girls build confidence, resilience, and leadership skills. United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley provides funding and support, giving these young girls opportunities to grow, serve their community, and develop the skills to create lasting positive change.

Adapting and Thriving Through Challenges

Troop 57005, founded in 2019, faced challenges from the very beginning. Just months after forming, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted life for everyone. But with support from United Way and GSHG’s Direct Delivery program, the troop adapted. Virtual meetings, socially distanced service projects, and consistent mentorship kept the girls engaged and connected, helping them grow even during uncertain times.

Leadership, Service, and Personal Growth

Over the years, the girls contributed to causes like breast cancer and autism awareness, served local seniors, and participated in community outreach. In 2024, they expanded their experiences beyond Talbot County, embarking on overnight camping trips, attending leadership conferences, and exploring historical and cultural sites. During these trips, they worked on mental wellness, shared personal challenges, and leaned on each other for support.

The troop also demonstrated compassion during real-life crises. When a member’s mother passed away, the girls organized aid and support for their friend, showing that leadership is about heart as much as action. Cadette Ta’Shiya exemplified this spirit by speaking at a local school board meeting, advocating for issues affecting her peers, and proving that United Way-supported programs give girls the confidence to create change today, not just someday.

Building Resilient Leaders for the Future

Through their experiences, the girls of Troop 57005 are growing into resilient, confident leaders.
