Step by Step: Daylie’s Journey Toward Independence

Helping Families Thrive Through Therapeutic Care

Caring for a child or adult with a disability can be overwhelming. Families often struggle to find quality care that supports their loved one’s needs. Without the right resources, parents may have to leave work or school, adding financial stress to an already difficult situation.

A Unique Program That Supports the Whole Family

Easterseals West Georgia (ESWG) provides affordable, high-quality therapeutic care for people of all ages and all types of disabilities. It’s the only program of its kind in the region.

Participants receive care from trained staff in a safe, nurturing environment. Therapies—including physical, occupational, speech, and behavioral—are offered on-site. This makes ESWG a one-stop location for families seeking support.

Each person is assessed and given a personalized plan with specific goals. Progress is measured monthly, and goals are updated at least once a year. This consistent, goal-oriented approach helps participants grow and thrive.

While their loved ones receive care, families are free to work, attend school, or take a much-needed break. That kind of support builds financial stability and emotional strength for the entire household.

Meet Daylie: A Story of Hope and Hard Work

When Daylie arrived at Easterseals, she was five years old and full of determination. She was living with cerebral palsy and used a wheelchair. She needed help standing, keeping her balance, and walking.

With daily support from her teachers and the therapy team at HPRC, Daylie began to grow stronger. Step by step, she started meeting her goals.

Today, Daylie can stand on her own. She can balance with confidence. And—amazingly—she can now walk without assistance. Her journey shows what’s possible when children get the care and encouragement they need early on.

The Bigger Picture: Stronger Families, Stronger Community

Programs like this don’t just help one person—they lift up entire families. Parents can pursue education or careers, which creates financial stability. Children and adults with disabilities gain independence and confidence. And the whole community benefits when everyone has a chance to thrive.

United Way proudly supports organizations like Easterseals West Georgia because they help reduce poverty, build resilience, and create a healthier, more equitable community for all.

Through Community Investment Grants, United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley provides partial funding for Easterseals’ therapeutic programming. This vital support helps ensure more families have access to the services they need to grow stronger, build stability, and move forward—together.
