United Way’s volunteer and teambuilding experiences are designed to align with the unique values and goals of your organization so your team has a fulfilling and impactful experience.

Teambuilding Activities

Interactive experiences that help your team better understand the challenges facing working families—and the solutions that create lasting change. These activities take place at your location and are led by United Way staff. Each experience can be customized to align with your team’s goals, creating a meaningful opportunity to connect, learn, and make an impact together.

Brain Architecture

Brain Architecture is an interactive team experience that explores how early childhood experiences shape brain development—what strengthens it, what disrupts it, and how United Way and partners support strong starts for children in our community.

Invisible Backpack

The Invisible Backpack is an interactive demonstration that reveals the hidden emotional and mental burdens many students carry into the classroom—and how United Way and partners are working to remove barriers to learning.

Plan for 10-15 minutes
Great for groups of any size

Kitchen Sink

The Kitchen Sink is an interactive demonstration that shows how United Way, community partners, and local resources work together as a coordinated network of support for ALICE households—and what happens when gaps remain.

Plan for 15-25 minutes
Minimum of 8 participants

Making Choices

Making Choices is an interactive gameboard activity that puts participants in the shoes of ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) families, navigating the tough financial decisions many working households face—and how United Way supports pathways to stability.

SNAP Gap

SNAP Gap is an interactive team challenge where participants build a healthy meal plan on a limited budget, highlighting the realities of food insecurity and how United Way and partners are working to close the gap in our community.

Community Partner Activities

Engage with United Way Community Partners through interactive simulations that provide insight into real-life challenges such as poverty and domestic violence, and the critical role partners play in supporting those they serve.

Volunteer Kit Builds

Hands-on service projects that make an immediate, tangible impact for children, families, and seniors across our community. These experiences can take place at your location, a community partner agency, or our downtown office. Facilitated by United Way staff, each project is customizable and designed to engage your team while directly supporting local needs.

Hygiene Kits

Kits include essentials for hygiene and grooming and are distributed to housing/shelter programs.

Minimum 100 kits
1 hour for 20 people

FEMININE CARE KITS

Kits include menstrual care essentials and are distributed to programs serving women and girls.

1 hour for 25 people

SNACK PACK KITS

Kits include allergy-safe, shelf-stable snacks and are distributed to afterschool and summer camp programs.

Literacy Kits

Kits include sight word cards, a book, and words of encouragement for children ages 4-6 learning to read.

Minimum 50 kits
1-2 hours for 25 people

The basics Kits

Kits include interactive supplies for children ages 0-5 and their caregivers and are distributed to programs serving young families.

Minimum 50 kits
1 hour for 20 people

Senior Care Kits

Kits include household essentials to supplement senior income and are distributed to programs serving senior citizens.

Minimum 50 kits
1-2 hours for 25 people

Elementary Math Kits

Kits include math flash cards and manipulatives to practice and reinforce concepts taught in school and are distributed through Community Schools United.

Minimum 120 kits
