On September 15, the Chattahoochee Valley will come together for a day of action, service and community.

What can happen when hundreds of people decide to spend a few hours doing something good for their community?

On Tuesday, September 15th, businesses, volunteers, nonprofit organizations and community members from across the Chattahoochee Valley will come together for United Way Day, a community-wide day of service designed to put caring into action.

Instead of gathering for a traditional workplace campaign kickoff luncheon, we’re rolling up our sleeves and getting to work.

Throughout the day, volunteers will head into local nonprofit organizations and United Way programs to lend a hand where it is needed most. They’ll paint, organize, build, assemble, prepare, clean and create. Some projects will help strengthen the spaces where local programs serve families and children. Others will support food access, prepare resources for families or help local organizations get ready for the work they do every day.

The projects may look different, but they all have something in common: people showing up for one another.

Because community is something we build together.

Every day, local nonprofits across the Chattahoochee Valley are doing the work of helping people find stability, creating opportunities for children and young people, connecting families to resources, strengthening neighborhoods and responding when people face difficult circumstances.

That work takes resources. It takes partnerships. And it takes people.

United Way Day is an opportunity to bring all three together.

When volunteers spend a morning helping a nonprofit organize its space, prepare supplies or tackle a project that has been waiting on the to-do list, they’re giving that organization something valuable: time. Every task volunteers take on is one less thing for nonprofit staff to manage, giving them more time and energy to focus on the people they serve.

When volunteers sort donations, assemble resources for families or prepare materials for a local program, they’re helping make sure those resources are ready when someone needs them. What may feel like a small task to a volunteer can make a real difference to the organization on the other side of it.

And when hundreds of people across the Chattahoochee Valley choose to give a few hours of their time, those individual efforts add up.

United Way Day will bring volunteers together for hands-on service projects throughout Columbus, Phenix City and surrounding communities, with opportunities available for a range of ages, interests and abilities.
